3. Can you make decisions? Small business owners will need to be able to make large and small decisions all day, every day.

4. Are your committed? Most small business owners end up feeling like they are living at their place of business. You will
need be there first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Depending on your business; you may work seven-days a week. If you have setbacks, do you deal well with frustration?

5. Can you plan and organize? This is a critical ability for anyone going into a new business venture. You have to be on top of your
inventory, scheduling and financial situation at all times. These areas are critical to avoid business failure.

6. Do you have the motivation to remain firm in your decision to own a business during slow periods? Are you easily burned out? Owing your own business is an enormous responsibility. You, your family and your employees will depend on you to make your venture a success.

7. Is your family behind you? Starting a new business can be very hard on your family. You will be gone long hours and it may take some time to make enough of a profit to be able to take a salary. Many new business have to keep reinvesting their profits back into the business in order to help it grow.

There are many courses available to small business owners at your local community college or adult ed center. These courses can help you learn about basic accounting. They can also help you with interviewing skills. Teach you how to sucessfully manage people. If you do have employees, you will need to know something about employment laws.

There are many reasons to start your own business. You get to be in charge. You will be working for your own sucess, rather than making money for someone else. Owning your own business can be exciting and challanging. The more knowledge you have ahead of time, the more chance of success you will have. Good luck with whatever your decision is.
